Paying Bills
If you have multiple credit card bills that you’re struggling to stay on top of paying every month, follow these steps to set yourself up for success with GReminders Personal Reminders.
Step 1
In your Google or Outlook Calendar, create a recurring event for the date that you want to be reminded to pay your credit card bill. Select a time that makes sense (i.e., a time that you would like to be reminded of this task). Keep in mind that you can set up as many of these as you’d like to cover all of your different credit cards–this is handy when your cards have different due dates.
GOOGLE CALENDAR:
OUTLOOK CALENDAR:
- In the title of the event, put the words “Credit Card”.
- In Google Calendar, choose your desired recurrence by selecting the dropdown for “Does Not Repeat” and then choosing “Custom”:
Change “Repeat every 1 Week” to “Repeat every 1 Month”, and you will see that this will now recur every month on the same date–in this case, the 11th of every month:
For Outlook calendar, select the “Don’t Repeat” dropdown and select your desired option:
Choosing “Monthly” from the dropdown will offer you these options:
3. Put the name of the credit card company in the Description box in the event.
4. Be sure to change your availability setting from “Busy” to “Free” to prevent this item from blocking your availability.
5. Click “Save” to create the event.
Step 2
In GReminders, you will create a Personal Reminder(s) as follows:
- Select Personal Reminder from the left menu and click New Personal Reminder.
- Choose Reminder as the purpose:
3. In the Criteria box, enable the Custom Criteria feature by moving the slide next to “All Events” so that you now see this:
4. Set up the criteria to read “Event Title contains the word or phrase Credit Card”, like so:
5. Choose between Email, SMS and Phone Call:
Keep in mind that you can opt to receive these reminders via any and all of these, you will simply need to set up a separate reminder template for each.
6. Choose your timing:
Again, if you want to set up an entire cadence that reminds you multiple times, you can do so. Be sure to stagger the timing as you are setting these up.
7. In the Content/Body box, place the following text:
Reminder: Pay {{event.description}} Credit Card {{event.date_coming_up_at}}.
8. Scroll down and give it a nickname to help you organize your reminders, then click “Create”:
Step 3
Repeat Step 2 as many times as needed to create as many reminders as you need in order to set up a communication cadence that will ensure your reminders are effective:
You can make this process easier on yourself by using the Clone feature. Select the Action button to the right of your reminder, select Clone and it will create a copy of your reminder. All you have to do is make the needed changes (don’t forget to nickname it appropriately):
Step 4
Once you have gotten your communication cadence set up, all you have to do is sit back and wait for GReminders to remind you to pay your credit card bill. If you like, you can check on the reminders that are scheduled to be sent to you by selecting the event in the GReminders home screen to view the notification log details:

Waking Up On Time
Would you like the convenience of receiving wake-up calls without the hassle of a hotel bill? GReminders can do that!
Step 1
In your Google or Outlook Calendar, create a daily recurring event for the time you want to wake up. If you will be scheduling more than one wake-up call per day, be sure that your Start Time and End Time are the same. You’ll see why below.
GOOGLE CALENDAR:
OUTLOOK CALENDAR:
- Title your event “Wake Up”.
- Set your recurrence to “Daily”. Be sure to adjust the end date so that it does not end:
3. Be sure to mark your availability as “Free”.
4. Save your event.
Step 2
In GReminders, create your Personal Reminder(s) as follows:
- Select Personal Reminder from the left menu and click New Personal Reminder.
- Choose Reminder as the purpose.
- Enable the Custom Criteria feature by sliding the button next to All Events.
- For your criteria, use “Event Title Contains the Word or Phrase Medication”.
- Choose Phone Call as your “Send Via”. This will set up the reminder so that you receive a phone call.
- Choose your timing.
- In the Content/Body box, place the following text:
Reminder: This is your daily Wake Up call for {{event.time}}.
8. Scroll down and give it a nickname to help you organize your reminders, then click “Create”.
Step 3
If you are prone to snoozing, set up additional reminders, but use the “Follow-Up” purpose so that you can set up timing for after your wake-up time:
Note that follow-ups give you timing options relative to the Appointment END Time, which is why you will want to set your Wake Up events with the same start and end time on your calendar.
Step 4
Now that you have your wake-up call reminders set up, you don’t have to do anything but make sure that your phone is turned on (and not set to Airplane Mode to allow for your wake-up calls to go through.) If you want to make sure your reminder is set up correctly, you can always check the notification log in each event in GReminders home screen:
That’s it!
The possibilities for personal reminders are endless with GReminders. Now that you know how to set them up, you can apply these steps to remind yourself of all kinds of tasks and chores.
